This is a nice vintage, solid brass oval paperweight from the Marsellus Casket Company. It commemorates the company's 100 years of service to the funeral profession. The Marsellus Casket Company was one of the finest manufacturers of caskets in the United States. Marsellus Casket was in business for 131 years and many famous people were buried in their caskets, including presidents Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Marsellus Casket is no longer in business, so this paperweight is highly sought after by collectors of funeral antiques. The front of the paperweight says "1872 * MARSELLUS * 1972. A CENTURY OF SERVICE TO THE FUNERAL PROFESSION. CRAFTSMANSHIP * INTEGRITY * VALUE" on it. The back of the paperweight shows hands of craftsmen performing various tasks around the words "IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE". It measures 3 1/2" long x 2 6/8" wide x 3/8" high and weighs 7 1/2 ounces.
